Adopt a Shepherd / Mixed

Gomer is a playful, active and sweet young man with a German Shepherd tail and coloring and long, lanky legs and body weighing in at around 50 pounds. He appears to be about 1 year of age and has a happy go lucky personality. He loves to run and play with other dogs and people…sometimes his youthful enthusiasm gets the better of him, though, so he would probably be best in a home without small children or elderly/easily annoyed pets. He has been very receptive to gentle training techniques as we work to reduce his undesirable puppy behaviors like jumping and biting at moving objects and seems to be a fast learner. Although he generally understands the concept of which toys are his to chew and which people things are off limits, he is still young and occasionally forgets the boundaries, so please set him up for success by keeping shoes and other belongings put away out of reach until he settles in. Gomer loves to be outside running and exploring and would probably be happiest in a rural setting with a large area to roam. When inside, he enjoys being rubbed, praised and hoarding his toys. He is also potty trained and only had one accident a few days after we found him. Other than a few days of slight toy aggression with our other dogs when we first took him in, he has shown no fear or aggression issues with people or dogs. He doesn’t mind being picked up, brushed or having his feet handled and rides calmly in a vehicle. He’s not perfectly obedient on a leash but is not wild or out of control either. He appears to have been well taken care of in his previous life and is pretty bonded to his traveling companion Pops but would probably adjust to a new life without him as long as he had other dogs to hang out with.
